Monday Moments: Soul Moments

Yesterday morning, I had a million things I should have been doing.

There was yard work, housework, and a list of projects waiting at home. Mom had plenty to do too, and before we left, we were both questioning whether we really had time to meet some friends for coffee.

But we went anyway. The plan was to stay for an hour. Almost three hours later, we realized Sip & Stitch was closing and we actually had to leave. 😂

It was an impromptu coffee klatch with two of my childhood friends and two of our moms. We had the place pretty much to ourselves, so we settled in with our drinks, talked about everything and nothing, caught up, told stories, and laughed—a lot.

By the time we left, all those things we should have been doing didn’t seem quite so important. Instead, we were saying, “We need to do this more often,” and talking about making it a monthly thing.

We even decided our newly formed DPC might need T-shirts. I won’t tell you what that stands for, but the conversation about it had us dying laughing. 😂🐈

It struck me later how close we’d all come to missing those three hours because we thought we should be doing something else. How many times do we tell ourselves we don’t have time to go, or we don’t really feel like it, only to finally go and be so glad we did?

Yesterday did something for my soul, and I think it did for all of us.

Maybe it was especially fitting that it happened on Labor Day weekend. Even when we’re given a day off, how many of us immediately start calculating how much yard work, housework, and how many projects we could get done?

All of it was still waiting when I got home.

Because I know someday, when my time comes, I won’t be remembering how clean my house was or how meticulous my yard looked. I have a feeling I’ll be holding onto the moments I spent with my people, because those are the soul moments.

So maybe that’s my reminder this Monday: when you have the chance to spend a few hours with your people, take it. The to-do list will still be there when you get home.

But you might come home feeling a little more connected, a little lighter, and your cup filled for the week ahead.

Anyway…off we go 🐾 Have a wonderful week, friends❣️
