Life According to Dogs: Selective Cooperation

When I ask, “Who wants to go outside?”

The door flies open, and out they go.

Then I count…

One.

Two.

Three.

Four…

Where’s Mikey? There he sits, watching me like he’s waiting to see what I’m going to do about it.

“Mikey, you need to go outside.”

I take a couple of steps, and he immediately flops onto his back with all four paws in the air. When I walk over, he curls up and offers me his little paws. It’s the tiniest act of rebellion, and I have to admit…I kind of respect it.

Then he turns up the cuteness. And just like that…I’m done😍

I scoop him up, give him a squeeze, carry him to the door, and send him on his way. He gets carried…I get played.

Sometimes I wonder if he truly doesn’t want to go outside…or if he’s thinking, “Mom loves this.”

Either way, I hope he never stops doing it❣️ It’s all about give and take. He gives me a smile; I take him outdoors. Could you resist this level of cuteness?

I can’t.

The people—and dogs—we love aren’t always the ones who make life easier. Sometimes the smallest inconveniences bring the biggest smiles.
