Monday Moments: Shadfly Season is Back

If you’ve never experienced it, imagine thousands of harmless bugs deciding your porch light, your garage…and occasionally your face…are the place to be.

The good news? They don’t bite. They don’t sting. They’re actually a sign of a healthy river, provide an all-you-can-eat buffet for fish, birds, turtles, frogs, and countless other creatures that call the Mississippi home…and they’re only around for a day or two before their work is done.

The bad news?

If you forget they’re around and decide to take a leisurely stroll down River Street, you’ll probably end up doing a full-body heebie-jeebie dance when you get swarmed.

Oh…and they smell a little fishy.

If you have a dog, keep a close eye on them because a pile of dead shadflies is the equivalent of a luxury spa treatment.

“Ah yes…Eau de Shadfly. Magnificent.”

Have a wonderful week, friends. ❤️
